OOTD: The Circus

The wedding festivities are finally over. And it is nice to have my feet on solid ground after 4 months. Albeit 7kg heavier and married, H and I don’t feel as though much has changed, except for the fact that we live in Manila now.

The last time we were back in Singapore, Cirque Du Soleil TOTEM was in town and it was nice to be able to take the family to enjoy the show before our rock star wedding tour.

Digital Fashion Week 2014 Video Highlights

The Singapore arm of the Digital Fashion Week has come to a close! It has been a whirlwind weekend of being surrounded by wonderful creations from the various designers. Being part of the #DFWInsiders has been incredible, I have met the most incredible bunch of bloggers and influencers from all over the world. Watching the shows with them, goofing off and then meeting the talented designers, has been eye-opening and very humbling.

I have uploaded most of the show highlights on my Instagram (@msvalerielim), but you can also watch the video highlights put together by the Digital Fashion Week Singapore crew.

If you have been following my Instagram (@msvalerielim) and Twitter (@valerie__lim), you will know that I was very privileged to be one of the 25 DFWInsiders for the recent Digital Fashion Week 2014. There were other bloggers from around the region and local Nuffnang Singapore Bloggerati members.

Prior to the shows, the DFWInsiders got to shot our profile pictures at Hotel Jen – a brand new hotel located very conveniently at Orchard Gateway. For the shoot, I got to wear one of the runway pieces from Pauline Ning’s Spring/Summer 2015 collection.

It was last year during 2013’s Digital Fashion Week that I was introduced to Pauline Ning and I was so happy to see her back again in this year’s designer showcase. This year, for her new collection, she drew on inspiration from atheleisure (athletic-leisure). The piece that I wore was cleverly based off a swimsuit and matched perfectly the pool setting at Hotel Jen.

Urban Decay Pulp Fiction Palette

Make up wise, I used the newly launched Urban Decay Pulp Picture Palette. Inspired by the badass Mrs Mia Wallace and to commemorate the film’s 20th anniversary, the Pulp Fiction palette is currently retailing at all Sephora Singapore outlets for $52.

This palette five shades of eyeshadow including RIGHTEOUS (light cream matte), TYRANNY (warm brown matte), VENGEANCE (deep taupe-brown matte-satin), FURIOUS (white satin), and ANGER (black satin with slight tonal sparkle). The palette is simple and basic yet edgy just like Pulp Fiction’s main character Mrs Mia Wallace. I loved the smooth and velvety texture of the shadows.

Wearing the make up, I tried channeling the cool vibe for my photoshoot. How do you think I did?

Outfit of the Day – SFMS 2014

Normally I spend Sundays by the pool or simply hanging out with the family. Today, however, was special.

Black fringe top and black shiny skinny jeans both from Dream Factory by Ines Ligron.

It has been a while since I was last back at the NUS University Cultural Centre. And this afternoon I made the long commute all the way out West for the Singapore Fitness Model Search 2014.

Walking into the front lobby brought back so many good memories. I remember spending countless nights there with my NUS Dance Blast! crew rehearsing for various performances. The bursting excitement, adrenalin rush and thrill we felt just before a performance was just the cherry on top of the all the crazy antics we used to do backstage.

Ahhh.. yes. When the judges were brought backstage for the briefing, I walked through the all too familiar backstage doors to the back of the stage and the changing rooms. Those changing rooms held special meaning to us dancers. They were the rooms that we created the most mischief; they were the rooms we spent the most time dressing and putting on makeup; they were the rooms we dashed in and out of for our quick changes in between performances; they were the rooms where we laughed, cried and shared priceless moments.

Being in the judging panel at front of the stage, in those familiar surroundings was a little bit odd and refreshing at the same time. It seemed to mark my graduation from stage to “off-stage” where I do most of my work now with coaching and consultation.

Throughout the judging, I remember clearly how nerve-wrecking it was to have so many pairs of eyes on you. I could emphatize with each and every contestant. But overall, I was very impressed at how most of the contestants did well. Obviously some did better than the others and emerged tops.

Here’s a shout out to all the winners. These are the 4 champions from their individual categories. From left to right: winner of Men’s Physique (under 30s), winner of Women’s Bikini (under 30s), winner of Women’s Bikini (30+) and winner of Men’s Physique (30+).

Congratulations winners, you are an inspiration! I can only imagine how much effort you have put into achieving those amazing taut muscles! Now if you will excuse me, I probably have to go pump some iron before I go to bed.
