TRAVEL: SG50 in Manila

It has been almost over a month since H and I last moved here in Manila and we have been indulging ourselves and getting to know the Filipino culture quite well (read: FOOD FOOD FOOD!)

We didn’t think that we would actually miss Singapore food since we were just there, but when we heard about the SG50 in Manila celebration put together by the Singapore Embassy, and the food stalls that were going to be there, we just could not say no.

We missed the celebrations in Singapore on August 9 because we were in the States doing a (sort of) patriotic thing by getting married, so this was a nice way of making up.

OOTD: The Circus

The wedding festivities are finally over. And it is nice to have my feet on solid ground after 4 months. Albeit 7kg heavier and married, H and I don’t feel as though much has changed, except for the fact that we live in Manila now.

The last time we were back in Singapore, Cirque Du Soleil TOTEM was in town and it was nice to be able to take the family to enjoy the show before our rock star wedding tour.

#VHtakeontheworld – Singapore

After a perfect Californian wedding in August, we are back in the humidity and heat for the Singapore leg of #VHtakeontheworld.

In August, my immediate family flew to LA to meet the whole Chan Clan and the extended family – H’s uncles and aunties. This time in Singapore, they’ll get to meet my extended family. Interestingly enough, both H’s mom and my dad come from big families. H’s mom has 3 sisters and 1 brother while my dad has 4 brothers and 1 sister. That simply translates to loads of uncles and aunties for the both of us… And three weddings in three countries.

Taiwan, we’ll see you next!

Moving to Manila

So this is it. We have been talking about moving to Manila for the longest time, and now, we have finally done it.

Manila Bonifacio Global City

After several days of house-hunting, H and I have found a space to call our own. We are renting a simple studio apartment for the next 2 months until we find something more permanent. The Fort, aka Bonifacio Global City (BGC), is our hood. We chose this location primarily for its proximity to Unit 27, but also for the ease of being able to walk to wherever we want/need.

Our space is not much, but I absolutely love it. Here’s a quick tour of the place:

Jakarta Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2016 – TXID by Tex Saverio

Last month was the month of fashion weeks and firsts.

First, it was Shanghai Fashion Week. The week after, we ventured to Jakarta for the launch of TXID at Jakarta Fashion Week. I have never been to either of the above fashion weeks, so it was exciting and eye-opening to see the different scenes.

TXID was the closing show on the first day of JFW 2016, and it was a much anticipated one. We were in the office the day before and it was a mad house. Guests were clamouring for tickets to this show and Jovanna, the Head of Marketing for Tex Saverio, had to beat them off with a stick. Figuratively, of course.

In comparison to Tex’s couture line, this was definitely much simpler, but no less edgy. Materials for this collection include polyurethane, neoprene and rayon polyester. Plus, the Spring/Summer 2016 print was inspired by graffiti art.

One of my favourite pieces from the TXID collection: the vest!

I am obsessed with vests and this one, I MUST HAVE IN MY CLOSET.

Above, you will see that TXID retains some of the Privé ready-to-wear elements such as laser cut.

Naturally, I dressed in Tex Saverio’s Privé Autumn/Winter 2015 collection for this show. I picked the laser cut out sweater and leggings as an ode to to Tex’s style.

I rounded the fashion week circuit off with the closing of Digital Fashion Week 2016 in Singapore. It was quite fitting that I closed off the jet-setting back on home-ground before jetting off to Manila.

FASHION: Behind the Scenes at TXID

Remember when I wrote that I was starting over in this space? This new milestone comes as the new husband and I embark on our new life together in the Philippines, doing something new together.

After months of meetings, it is official:

TXID by Tex Saverio will be launching in the Philippines!

And I have the great honor to be the one to do that. Aside from the numerous Skype meetings previously, H and I finally took a trip down to Jakarta to the Tex Saverio office to meet with the team. There was a lot to discuss – the upcoming collections, the marketing strategy, sales channels etc.

Here is a quick behind-the-scenes tour of the office and the people we work with:

Clarissa is one of the designers on the TXID design team. Here we are discussing the designs and I am picking out the items that will sell well during the upcoming Christmas season. Pssst! The papers in front of us are designs for the men’s tee-shirts TXID will carry. One thing I already love about TXID is the fact that it not only caters to women, but to men too. On top of that, we are planning to make swimsuits next year.

When the produce development and discussions are done, samples are normally made and then comes the fun part….

FITTING!

Here’s Annabel, the head of the design team, who is fitting me with some of the new Spring/Summer 2016 items to make sure they are functional. Then, if the fit is not right, Annabel will pin the part where adjustments need to be made.
