This was one of the makeup collaborations I had been highly anticipating. Balmain has been on an up-rise since Olivier Rousteing started at the helm of the brand.
It started with the first collaboration with H&M (did anyone get their hands on that? I sorely missed it) and now Balmain Paris has collaborated with L’Oreal Paris to design a capsule collection for their best-selling Colour Riche line. He’s created 12 new colours and designed a sleek packaging inspired by different stones and “tribes”. The shades have been categorized into 3 tribes – Couture, Rock and Glamazon / Safari identifiable by their marbled casing inspired by natural stones like onyx, lapis lazuli and malachite.
The collection was launched at Paris Fashion Week, but it is finally here on Singapore shores! I got to preview the collection yesterday thanks to an invite from Zalora Singapore and L’Oreal Paris.
The Couture collection comes in a sleek onyx black case with gold trimming and gold Balmain words across the cap and is easily the most wearable of the 3 tribes with pinks and reds.
The texture of the L’Oreal Paris x Balmain lipsticks are rich and creamy, and very easy to apply on the lips. The colour pay off is intense as you can see from the swatches of the Couture set.
Domination – bold red
Liberation – grape purple (warm undertones)
Confidence – nude champagne with gold glitter
Connfession – warm peach
From the press release, the capsule collection of 12 matte lipstick shades is meant to “suit every kind of colour and continent and culture”, and conveys the idea of “beauty in diversity and female empowerment”.
Safari or Glamazone in a green malachite is inspired by more earthy tones, and I am totally in love with this collection.
Though I must say I am more a Rock tribe kinda girl, the colours of the L’Oreal Paris x Balmain Rock tribe (seen here in blue lapis lazuli) consists of more cool tone colours.
Here are the swatches of the colours I could get my hands on.
The top 2 are from the Glamazone / Safari tribe.
Urban Safari – warm pale peach
Glamazone – grey brown
Rebellion – cool tone blue
Power – plum based brown
I decided to be a little adventurous and try out the Rock tribe colour Power. To my surprise, the colour turned out really well on my warm skin tone thanks to the plum undertones.
Thanks to an exclusive collaboration with Zalora Singapore, the L’Oreal Paris x Balmain full collection of 12 lippies comes in a luxurious black leather box with gold embossed Balmain emblem up front.
There are only 50 pieces available online on Zalora Singapore, and I am highly considering getting this limited edition collection.
